What does "ceili" mean?
The broadest meaning of the Irish word ceili (pronounced kay’ lee) is "gathering" or "party." More specifically, a ceili is a social event where ceilis and/or sets are danced, perhaps with some waltzes or two-hand dances mixed in. The ceilis sponsored by Sets in the 'Burg are all set dance ceilis -- with a waltz or two included. A ceili where only ceili dancing is done is sometimes called a "fior ceili." Pub Ceili
The first ever Sets in the 'Burg pub ceili was held September 29 at Finbar MacCarthy’s Irish Pub, Saukville. Milwaukee band áthas played the tunes for us and everyone at the pub had a fantastic time. So when's the next one, you ask? We're working on it!
